'Kelsey Grammer Presents The Sketch Show' just plain sucks. It's the opposite of funny. The jokes get worse the closer they get to the punchline. Unlike Saturday Night Live, which is usually 90 minutes of progressively longer and less funny sketches, the Sketch Show is a rapid-fire barrage of weak puns and crappy one-liners that usually last less than a minute. Now this might have been a good thing for the show, since a bad sketch is over quickly instead of dragging on and on like a SNL sketch, but sadly the Sketch Show is just one bad joke after another, cramming a half hour with 2 dozen or so stinkers. I wonder if Kelsey Grammer's job as Executive Producer is to make sure that there is NOT a single even marginally funny gag in the whole bunch. Just fucking sad, especially considering the show apparently did well in the UK before getting the Americanized treatment.
On a related note, the American version of the Office is not nearly as bad as some people have been saying. The pilot is indeed a carbon copy of the UK version, but it's still very funny, and I thought the 2nd episode about 'Diversity Day' is hilariously original while still maintaining the spirit of the character established by Ricky Gervais.
