This blog was a miracle. I accidentally spilled 7Up on my Nintendo DS yesterday. The only problem was, it wasn't technically MY DS. The bottom screen was dark and would flicker and eventually die out. I scrambled on line and this was the first link that came up on the google search. I followed all the same steps you outlined (took out the battery, blow-dry, let sit for a full 24 hours) and I just turned it on and it seems to be working just fine. I am very very very grateful for this. Thanks.

No guarantees, but try using a small screw driver to remove the battery, then use a hair dryer on a low, warm setting and slowly blow dry it out for 15 to 30 minutes. Then put the DS in a sealed bag of rice for 48 hours (the rice will absorb the water over the 2 days). Whatever you do, do NOT try to turn it on until you are certain that it is dry on the inside.
Good luck,
Josh

Bro. I'm really grateful I read this. I got my DS wet earlier in school today.
Didn't realize my bottle of alcohol in my bag was already leaking out. When I fished for my DS, it was already fricken wet. After drying the outside, I foolishly attempted to turn it on. I was quite happy it still worked. However, after reading online stories of possibly short-circuiting it (then damaging it permanently), my heart sank.
Hopefully it will also work tomorrow, just like yours did (which had it rougher).
And boy, aren't you a fine writer. I had fun reading. Kudos.

Hello everybody!
I have a question: where do I need to live for my ninja theme to change? I am using the teahouse theme right now, but I love the ninja one as well, and yesterday I just set it as my theme, and waited for about 4 hours and the picture did not change... Does anyone have any idea why that might be? I live in the UK and this is also where I have made my e-mail address...
Thanks in advance!

I can top all of these! My daughter THREW UP on her DS Lite while playing it in the car on the way home last night. :( Now this morning, it won't power on. It's brand new, but we didn't buy it from the store- we got off Craigslist. So, now I'm letting it sit in a bag of rice, hoping that I didn't just blow $100 + money and new games for birthday two weeks ago! So sad.

Hey, so i got a ds lite like 3 years ago from a friend and he said it doesnt work anymore cause he dropped it in his tub. So he gave it to me and gave me an original ds that he said didnt work. So i thought i might keep it to see if i can fix it by going on youtube or somewhere.
3 years later, i went to a game store and bought a gameboy game cause i found my gba in my attic along with my 2 ds's. Then i got tired of playing with barely any light on the gba so i finally tried fixing the ds's.
First off, i went for the original and all i had to do was charge it lol. Then i tried the ds lite. I bought a charger for it and tried charging it, and the only thing that happened was the charging light went on but when i try to turn it on, it doesnt turn it on at all.
Now my question is, does anyone know how to fix a ds thats been dead from water for over 3 years?

My four year dropped his sister's DSi into apple cider vinager while his feet were soaking in it. Do you think there is any hope it will still work after air drying for 12 hours? It just came on for a few seconds and went out. I only could take the battery out.

hi my 4 yr old accidently dropped his ds in the bath. it actually was quite dry and only knew he did this as the cord was wet and then he owned up. big mistake i turned it on and both screens were working. then i turned it on again about 15 mins later and only the top screen is working. i can hear a nosie within the other screen. ive took out the battery after an hr searching for a screwdriver - my sons dr who screwdriver is the hero! ive put it in a tub with rice and left it in the airing cupboard. what do you think the chances are that it will work tomorrow as one screen is working at the mo and not the other? Is there anything else i can do? Fingers x everybody!

Same thing happened to me a couple months ago. However, my Dad has his BS degree in Computer Science, so I figured he'd know what to do. It's pretty much what's been said: take it apart, put it in a bowl of rice overnight, and don't turn it on till morning. It still works!

I just want to thank everyone for their input, my 5yr old dropped her ds in the toilet and I snatched it up as quick as I could, started shaking it to try to keep the water from goin inside any worse... I then took the advice from this page and pulled it the battery, and stylus before blow drying it for about 10minutes , I then put it in a zip lock baggie filled with rice and sealed shut for about 24 hours... To my amazement I put the battery back in and crossed my fingers while I pressed the power button and it turned on!! Screen has a splotchy mark but all games, etc function as normal!!! Thank you for this advice!!!! I still can't beleve it works!!!!

Today I put my DS on the counter, not realizing that there was a puddle of water on it. After about 30 seconds I picked it up again and saw that it was all wet, and freaked. So I turned it off, dried it as best I could, and then took it upstairs and left it on my (puddle-free) desk. But about ten minutes later I noticed that it had turned on by itself, and I couldn't turn it off. The on-off button did nothing. I didn't know what to do, so I left it for a while, and eventually it turned off on its own. After an hour or so I turned it on (I know I shouldn't have, but I'm impatient and lacking in common sense) and it seemed to work fine. Relieved, I turned it off and left it. But it's now about three hours since then and it won't turn on anymore at all. I've removed the battery, but I don't have a tri-star screwdriver to completely disassemble it. Do you think there's even the slightest chance that it will work again? I've had it for about 3 years, so I'm pretty sure the warranty's expired :(

Wow, that's amazing. So many wet ds's. My son keeps pinching my daughters ds - he broke his own when he got angry and decided to throw it against a cupboard....hmmmm.....anyway, one day it was revealed that he lost it. We searched the house to no avail. My daughter was understandibly upset so the decision was made that my son was going to buy her a new one, though, at $5 a week pocket money, it was going to be a long wait so we brought one for her today and he can continue to pay for it weekly.
Imagine our surprise when my daughter's pink one suddenly appeared out of a draw in my sons room. Turns out he too dropped it in the toilet! He unfortunately, tried to turn it on straight away, and reading some of the comments here, it seems he cooked it now, but he did dry it out with the hair dryer. It still didn't work and so what does a 9 year old do? Yep, he hid it in his draw and led us all to believe it was lost.....that is of course until the new one arrived.
The pink one still doesnt work. Is there anyway we can get it working again? Or is the cheapest option to throw it out? We were hoping to get it working and give it to my son, since he paid for it - ha ha

Omg I got pokemon rsnger guardian signs today for my birthday and could not wait to play it. So, I took my ds with me into the bath, which I'd never done before. LOL, I'm currently sitting in the bath on my phone, as I dropped my DS on my belly which is semi-soaked. I took the game carts out, daubbed the water I could see up with a towel and left it with the screen open standing up near the towel heater. Fingers crossed it works!! Otherwise I'll be SO bored, what with my wii dead aswell... D;
But, the screens still work, only the speakers sound a bit iffy as they are really high pitched now... Hoping it still works! :D

I just thought it should 1) be corrected that Smith's death was not ruled a suicide. A call to the LAPD confirms it's STILL an open case with homocide as a possible cause of death (hey at least they're covering their tracks - the Seattle PD had a whole lot more evidence of homocide in the Cobain case but shut the case immediately and have refused to even re-open the investigation...)
2) I don't think anyone updated here that sadly Jeff Hanson's death was ruled a drug overdose due to mixed drug toxicity. The coroner wouldn't say what drugs but friends agree it was likely a combo of prescription drugs a la Heath Ledger since Hanson had no reputation at all for using illicit drugs. Does it even matter anymore, except for that he didn't break the law? I say this as someone who has never touched a "drug" but weed yet has for years mixed things like painkillers and antianxiety pills, once having a close call myself when I moronically added sleeping pills to the mix. The point is, he is prematurely dead and substances killed him and it's very sad. Last point, no determination was able to be made as to whether it was an accidental od or suicide, though no one seems to be floating the suicide notion too heavily. RIP Jeff, RIP Elliott may your truth be known and the case closed, whatever that truth may be.
