I'm kneeling on the ground with a rocketlauncher on my shoulder. I can't tell if i'm in a parched desert or a frozen tundra, but the temperature of the air around is so extreme that it burns my exposed skin and my lungs ache with each breath i take. It might be hot or it might be cold. I can't tell nor do i care. The ground is hard and grey. It might be clay or it might be ice. I can't tell nor do i care.
The sky is a brilliant blue. There are no clouds. There is no sun. There are no shadows. The sky itself seems to radiate light.
I look only straight ahead, but i know that that if i look around me, i will see the same in all directions: a flat, endless, empty expanse of grey merging with blue.
I point the rocketlauncher at a 45 degree and fire it into the sky. The rocket soars in the air and disappears in the blue. If it explodes, i cannot tell.
Without turning around, i reach behind me and feel someone's hand place another rocket into my hand. I reload the launcher, turn a few degrees clockwise, and fire again.
This cycle continues for several full rotations, as i fire the rockets into the sky, reload, turn, and fire again.
After firing what seems like hundreds of rockets several times in every possible direction, i reach back to reload, but this time, the anonymous hand behind hesitates momentarily before releasing the next rocket into my hand. I take the rocket, reload, and when i turn to fire, there is a tall green tree a few hundred yards directly in front of me. This tree was never there before in any of my prior rotations.
I aim the rocketlauncher as i always have and fire. The rocket hits the tree and explodes in a ball of fire. The flames from the tree ignite the whole sky, which bursts into a radiant red blaze.
My rocketlauncher has vanished from my hands. I stand up and twirl around counterclockwise. There is no one behind me or anywhere in sight. The tree is gone and I'm surrounded by a burning sky. The ground turns to grey smoke as it evaporates beneath my feet. I breathe in the smoke and cough. I am still twirling but I begin to fall through the smoke. Everything turns dark. I taste blood in my mouth. I wake up.
